Hi everyone. It seems like ages and we have done alot over the last few days. On sunday we left at a bit of a ridiculous hour to drive to Lake Naivasha ( serious issues with spelling here!) We were staying at Fisherman's camp which is basically little bandas(huts) this was definatly an experience for all! On monday we went on the most amazing boat trip and safari. We got to walk with the animals literally a few metres away from giraffes which was scary and amazing at the same time! During the whole fisherman's camp experience our highlights were tomato soup and frosties! On tuesday we went up to aberdares national park which had some amazing waterfalls. The girls and boys spilt up which was very interesting and i know that the female leaders in particular got a bit freaked out.. The boys had a disaster with some cars which slowed down they're journey but meant they all got a bit of MAJ time (me and jesus!). When we got back to nirobi some very interesting events took place.. Emily (who seems to be having an issue with toilets) dropped her waterbottle down the toilet and christy decided to commit a serious offence (somehow bargined her way out of buying food at the java house but coming away with chocolate cake!). TOday we went back to the childrens home and started painting all went well and all needed showers when we got back the the guest house. Couple of group requests.. 1. Please could mothers sturrock and gordon restict themselves to one comment only on each post and 2. We would like to do a call into church on sunday may need some communication before hand but all good! thanks to all for prayers lots of love and kisses from all of us.

Hi Everyone
ReplyDeleteSo good to here the news from Imogen. I think some of your amzing escapades will need further explanation. Tomato soup and Frosties -is that in the same bowl? Have you suggested that to Pizza Express as a new pizza topping? The boat trip sound awesome and walking with giraffes certainly beats a day out at Edinburgh zoo. When you were out on safari did you see a Zebra crossing?
Brilliant idea about getting in touch on Sunday, perhaps you could use Skype and do it over the internet, so we can all see you.
Weather-wise, it has rained and rained and rained in Edinburgh all day. Thoroughly miserable and Tiger Woods is out of the golf after only two rounds.
Love to all and to Florrie - mum is missing you so much. Arthur the cat is meowing for you.
Katie is at home and sleeping in your bed.
Kenny and Gail Kemp XXXX
Thinking of you all
ReplyDeleteSafari sounds fantastic, wonderful getting so close to such majestic animals.
If you want to skype in to church who should I contact to sort it out????
Kieren please check your email, meeting went well but a few questions for Uncle Sam.
God bless you all you are all stars xx
U hali gani?
ReplyDelete[we wanted to see if you have learned any Swahili!]
Great to hear about your adventures, and just wanted to say "Happy Birthday" to William for tomorrow! Hope you have a fun day to celebrate.
Love,
Knox & Shona
Hi everyone, great to hear all your news and exploits. Can't believe you're over half way through now. Imogen, Dad and I have been trying to sort out the bedrooms tonight...you can imagine what that was like! Pouring with rain here but everyone well and missing you all loads. Hope leaders are all well, a big thanks and loads of encouragement to them! Hugs all round. Miranda xxx
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteGlad you're all OK - sounds like you have a few stories to tell, e.g what exactly did the boys do to the cars, and just how offensively large was Christy's chocolate cake.
And just what is it with Emily and chucking stuff down toilet bowls. Is she trying to meet a plumber or something? ;o)
I'm currently stuck in the middle of a field in southern Texas, where it hasn't rained for a month. The temperature is 42 c in the shade, and my truck has no aircon. So if you're all being roasted alive in Kenya, know that I share your pain.
Look forward to seeing you all when I get back, and good luck with the transcontinental multimedia extravaganza in Church on Sunday.
Cheers
Euan
Hi to all
ReplyDeleteGreat to catch up on the news - did anyone kiss a giraffe this time? Can't quite believe you ahve just a week to go - hope the DIY is going well - it is very slow in this house - Jonathan - not sure how your bedroom will look when you get back! Nannie is here next week so maybe she will help me out.
Love Mum
Good to hear your news (even though somw is a wee bit difficult to decipher). Two weeks already; time is flying! We're looking forward to hearing you tomorrow at church - we'll be praying for the technology. Everyone well in the Oxenham household, though the dinner table is quieter without claire. with her friends and parents are preparing for triathlon. Looking forward to the next blog instalment.
ReplyDeleteall our love

Mum says trust you Emily (for dropping a bottle down the loo) (hope it's not the new one Mum brought you! You might be interested to know that the toilets in France this year are actually fine - with loo paper! Ali is still beating us all at ping pong. Weather still beautiful - we are now on the Med (nr Marseilles) and being deafened by cicadas love Mum, Dad and Ali.
ReplyDeleteWow! Time is flying by and it is your last week in Kenya. We had a lovley prayer spot again for you and the Children in church yesterday with special thoughts for your visit to Kibera.
ReplyDeleteHope the work/painting/digging etc goes well this week and that you all continue to keep well and have a great time with the Cheryl Children.
SU teams survived various Oxygen visitors last week and now M and Mum are off to the farm til the weekend. Dad left to cat sit and work!
Take care. Love to all, Fiona (Just one comment!)
Jambo!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're having an amazing trip, I'm very jealous, brings back a lot of great memories, especially of Fisherman's Camp (who slept in the Harry Potter cupboard this time?) and the Java House (the chocolate cake is worth sneaking out!)
Hope you're giving the leaders an easy time of it (they get tired too), sounds like they're feeding you well on tomato soup & frosties, a well balanced diet... I'm very jealous you were walking with giraffes, have you been to see Sharon the cheetah yet? She's v friendly.
Keep drinking your water, it tastes better than Dioralyte. Beware of the laundry at the Anglican Guest House, white t-shirts with black dye on them isn't a good look and they write your room no. on every item of clothing, including underwear. Metaphysical hide & seek passes many hours on the bus. Monkeys are v cheeky and will try steal your phone and drink your drink. And you've probably all learned by now that being vegetarian for the hour is the safest option whilst at La Belle.
Give my love to everyone at Cheryls, is Gary (the guitar) still there and in one piece? How was Kibera yesterday? It's a life changing experience, I'll never forget that smell and all the rubbish. It also helps you appreciate what the Cheryls kids are dealing with, where they've come from, etc.
Enjoy the rest of your last week, hope you see the 'Big 5' if you haven't already and safe home. Can't wait to hear all the stories & see the pics, will make me want to go back evenmore!

Hope you have a great last week - and that you have time for reflection on what you have learned and experienced.
ReplyDeleteFor the sports fans - Tom Watson, aged 59 3/4, missed an 8 foot putt to win the Open and lost in a play off to Stewart Cink. England have beaten Australia to go 1-0 up in the Ashes.
And Mum S got a handicap......
Look forward to your safe return on Sunday.

Hi Guys
ReplyDeleteJust making my one comment as it may be the last before you return. Hope that you are all well and that your trip has been a fantastic and memorable experience. No doubt you will have an emotional time saying farewell to the kids at Cheryls but hopefully it will be easier to keep in touch with what's happening when Kieren takes up his post in August. Remember the Java coffee beans Christy! See you Sunday. Love to all
Carole
