end of week 1

Well the last day of the first week, and we are veru much looking forward to a short break. The first week is very intense and involves a lot of hard work, its none stop everyday and I think we are all a little weary, so a few days up in Naivasha and the aberdares will do us good. CHance to rest, reflect and see different parts of Kenya.

Yesterday we came to the end of the planned part of our time here, the holiday club. All the young people worked so hard all week and ran a fantastic club. The kids absolutely loved every minute. The crafts were awesome and probably one of the best was the impropmtue Crown Making. Yesteday involved a lot of singing and I think after a little practice we did start to master a song in swahili,. which is good, although a little more practice wouldn't be a bad thing!

I think at the end of yesterday everyone was a little sad the first main bit was over, and we had a good chat last night sharing our thoughts about how the week had gone.

Today everyone is at the home, supporting the boys in their morning football match, heres hoping they win!!! Then this afternoon some more games and crafts. Tonight will be packing and getting ready for travel...breakfast at 7am, thats probably the earliest these guys have ever been up on a Sunday morning!

So far health has been good, just a couple with minor problems but generally going very well, although I hope I don't speak too soon. We really appreciate all the prayers and support. Will hopefully blog when we are back in Nairobi again on Wednesday.

Thanks
A very tired Kieren

PS: keppe sending in comments, everyone loves reading them.

  1. Hi Everyone! Thanks Kieren for a super round up of your first week! It all sounds amazing and can't wait to see photographs, especially of the crowns! Do hope you have some.
Good to hear you are well, so take care with all the medication/water etc. (Sorry, Mum talk there!)
Enjoy the sports and fun today. I wonder who will turn out to be the Kenyan Renaldo? Play well and enjoy.
Have a fantastic trip over the next few days and enjoy some well earned r&r.
    Love and prayers to all

  2. Glad to hear the first week has gone well and that there are no serious ailments so far. Hopefully you will have a great break and get a bigger picture of Kenya. Caroline has now gone to camp at Glenshee but P's & G's seems to have come to Nethy! The Nicolson's, Goughs, Thomson's, McFarlanes and David Strang have all been in this part of the world & as Fiona said James & Michael are now at camp in Aviemore. No escape...........
is anyone going to kiss a giraffe this trip? Gemma?
    Continued prayers (especially at mealtimes)

  3. Hey everybody,
missing you all lots and lots. We had a non-kenya yf peeps dinner on monday and definately spent most of the time talking about you guys! So glad everything is going so well, sounds amazing. Cant believe you have 50 monkeys thongh, i thought 30 was horrific enough. Also shame you didn't get the real toilet experience but you cant have everything. Very impressed with the swahili singing too.
Will you be visiting La Belle Inn on your travels? Just been reading our blog and remebered the night after you wrote it, christy, you were so stressed. Clearly, judging from the comments, your hasty deleting the next day was too late hahaha
    loads of love and hugs

  4. Jambo Everyone (I'm always amazed that all Kenyans seem to be Hearts supporters when they greet you.)
We're so glad the first week has been successful. We look forward to hearing the Swahili song - does it have actions?
We pray for your safety as you travel and hope that your good health and strong fellowship continues.
We look forward to seeing the photos (hint, hint, Florrie) of all the animals on safari. Mum is keen to see a picture of a lion, while I'm much more of a rhino fan.

Have fun and time to rest. The experiences you are having are amazing.

Lots of love Gail and Kenny xxx

  5. Just returned from the morning service at Ps and Gs. Super fun for all and expecially little ones. There was a lovely Kenyanine prayer slot and we saw a couple of photos and your individual names backed with a Swahili song. This Mum had to bite her lip hard, I can tell you! There is a lot of prayerful support for all the hard work you are doing and for the special children there.

  6. Well done everyone on what sounds like a fantastic holiday club. I do hope you did the honorable thing and let the kids win at the football.

Enjoy the week of safari, throwing more toilet rolls down the pan or whatever else you do to relax. ;o)

  7. You guys rock! It's great hearing your updates, and we are most definitely praying for you here. As Kieren, Gemma and Lizzie will know inside out, we were reminded in yesterday's service that GOD PROMISES TO BE WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO ... EVEN IN KENYA! Enjoy this next fun stage of your adventure - please will someone take a pic of a giraffe for me? It may simply be height envy, but I love them! Bless you all :) :)

  10. Hello to you all,
Thinking of you all a lot over the last few days. Praying that you have had a restful few days and are now raring for more ACTION. I can picture you all there with all our Kenyan friends. We had an amazing service on Sunday, very powerful with the perfect message, "God will always be with you where ever you are and whatever you are doing",(it was a tearful moment for a silly old woman) hold that close to your heart(not the tears but the message) and pass the message on. Tonight we have our meeting about the charity for Cheryls in Edinburgh, give us a quick thought/prayer if you have a moment. We will certainly be praying for you all at 8.00pm.
God bless you all and all the amazing work you are doing,
    much love cath xxxxxxxxxxxx

  11. Hi there again. Seeing as you didn't seem to get our last message from Annecy here goes again. We have enjoyed six brilliant days here by the beautiful Lac d'Annecy - swimming, cycling, tennis and we climbed a 2000 metre peak (from the chairlift!) and Ali went on a Luge run. Weather is very hot. We have a lovely swimming pool here. Ali still the ping-pong champion. Today we're off to the Med for more sun + sea and sand. Love Dad, Mum and Ali.

  13. Jambo everyone

Is there anyone out there in Kenya? Have you all been eaten by lions and trampled on by hippos? Those of us in rainy Edinburgh, sitting waiting for some tiny slither of info, can't wait to hear how the real, live safari went on. Did you sleep under the stars? Did you hear Simba calling? Or do we need to take ourselves off to Edinburgh Zoo to get a taste of the African wilderness? Send us some pics so we can feast our eyes too.

Lots of love to all (especially Florrie, the young one)

Kenny and Gail (Dad and Mum)

  14. Georgia and I have been to see High School Musical at the Playhouse so we have some words of wisdom from the lyrics for you ....might not be a good idea to "stick to the status quo" and don't forget we're "all in this together" It's half way day today....and soon you'll all be "soaring, flying" back to Scotland. We are sure this will have been a mind blowing experience for you all. Have been thinking of you so much the last few days while you have been out of Nairobi. Praying for good rest and good health for you all. Can't wait to hear all your news and see the photos. Loads of love God Bless Miranda Mark and Georgia xxxx

  15. Sitting in belfast Airport this morning I got an email from Ranald in NZ and then looked at the Kenya blog. How amazing technology is!! Was at an interesting centre for a summer school in larne and got told off for taking my coffee cup into the garden as this was breaching health and safety! Had to bite my tongue to refrain from making an ungracious comment!
The blog is great for us parents at home who wish we were on such amazing adventures. Looking forward to an update from you guys. The downside of the blog is that we all keep checking for news updates hoping that you are not all on Immodium and that you're continuing to have fun in Kenya.
As you would expect we are missing you all but are thrilled that you are having such an opportunity at this stage in your lives. Kieren & leaders........thank you for taking on the responsibility.
    God bless you all
    Carole & Derek
